Numbers 15: Do What God Says
I really am not sure why I tend to really like the final verses of Biblical chapters, but I have another few for you today from Numbers chapter 15.
Num 15:40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.
Num 15:41 I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.
I like these two verses because they make the distinction between knowing and doing.
It is one thing to understand what God wants us to do, but we are called to do more than that. We are called to follow through and help people understand who God is.
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Jas 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Jas 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Jas 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
I am sure that this passage in James is familiar to all of you, and it explains why we need to actually make changes when we see them. If we don’t, we are like people who look into the mirror and forget what we look like.
If we don’t remember anything about ourselves or make any changes, we are no better off than we were before.
When we look at ourselves in the mirror of the Bible and actually apply what we’ve learned, the Bible says that we will be blessed.
This is a lot tougher in reality. It is easy to talk about making all of these lifestyle changes and living a better life, but it is another to live them out.
However, that is the type of Christian God is calling us to be. We can read the Bible, go to church and listen to Christian music. All of those things are awesome, but we actually need to embrace Christianity and live it out in our lives as well. As we walk with God, He will guide our steps, and all we need to do is what He says.
